Teagascóirí Gaeilge

Is é príomhaidhm an chláir seo ná tacú le fás agus forbairt na Gaeilge i gCeanada. Cuirtear teagascóirí ar fáil chun an Ghaeilge a mhúineadh taobh istigh den ollscoil, agus chun cuidiú le dul chun cinn na teanga i mbéal an phobail.

Tugtar deis do mhúinteoirí reatha barr feabhais a chur ar a gcuid scileanna múinteoireachta agus cur lena n-eolas faoi shocaí agus faoi chultúr Cheanada ionas gur féidir leo tarraingt orthu tar éis dóibh filleadh ar Éirinn.

Irish Language Instructors

This programme exists to support the development and growth of the Irish language in Canada. As such, the role of the Irish Language Instructor is twofold; she/he is engaged to teach the Irish Language within the university, and to support the development of the Irish Language in the wider community.

The award provides individuals with the opportunity to refine their teaching skills and extend their knowledge of Canadian society and culture, enriching their teaching work on their return to Ireland.

Each year ICUF appoints a number of Irish Language Instructors to work in our partner universities in Canada, which are as follows:

  • University of St. Michael’s College, University of Toronto, Ontario
  • Concordia University, Montreal, Quebec
  • St. Mary’s University, Halifax, Nova Scotia
  • St. Thomas University, Fredericton, New Brunswick
  • Memorial University, St. John’s, Newfoundland
  • University of Ottawa, Ontario

Details for 2015 appointments:

  • Date of commencement of work is 1 September 2015
  • Irish Language Instructors will receive payment of €1,600 per month basis, for the period September 2015 to April / May 2016.
  • ICUF also makes a contribution to cover flights, health insurance and work permit application costs
  • In respect of accommodation costs, each partner university makes a payment of CAD$10,000 to the Irish Language Instructor in respect of accommodation for the period of engagement (this can take the form of payment in kind, e.g. the provision of accommodation for the period).
  • It is anticipated that a minimum of three Irish Language Instructors will be appointed, the precise number will be confirmed on this page before closing date of applications.

The completed application form, a cover letter and two references must be submitted to gaeilge@icuf.ie before 5pm on Friday 6th of March 2015

Entry Requirements:

  • Fluency in the Irish Language
  • A third level qualification (or soon expecting to graduate with same)

The following will be taken into account for applicants:

  • experience of teaching the Irish language
  • Fluency in French is not a requirement in all cases but will be of benefit to candidates seeking appointments in certain universities
  • Any additional relevant qualifications or skills
  • successful applicants will demonstrate a interest in promoting the Irish Language, both within the university context, as well as in the wider community in Canada

Further Details

As part of the award, successful candidates will be expected to;

  • attend a 3 day course in the National University of Ireland, Maynooth, the cost of which will be covered by ICUF. Dates to be announced
  • attend the ICUF award ceremony during the summer, date to be announced
  • apply for a work permit (visa) with assistance and guidance from ICUF
