Scholarship Criteria and Information on the Craig Dobbin Scholarships

• These awards are designed principally for young scholars and academics who are currently engaged at graduate level research in a discipline which is, or has potential to be, related to both Ireland and Canada, or who are commencing such research.
• All academic disciplines are eligible.
• The applications are evaluated by an Assessment Panel in each country, and their decisions on the awards are communicated to all applicants within two months after the closing date for applications.
• The visit must take place within 12 months after the award is made.
• Applicants must be permanent residents of either country, and have been living there for at least five years.
• Please note that 'Ireland' means the whole island of Ireland, North, South, East and West.
• The funds are provided to meet the costs of a short visit of three to four weeks to a university or research institution in the other country and the precise details of the visits are left to the scholars to decide on and arrange for themselves.
• The plan and schedule for the visit, as presented in the Application Form will, however, be an important factor in its evaluation by the Assessment Panel in each country.
• The ICUF Scholarships are for short visits which are to benefit the scholar's research, to establish new academic contacts in the other country, and which will provide the opportunity for the development of ongoing links in that research area.
• The awards are not intended for students who wish, or are intending, to travel to the other country to study for a degree, undergraduate or graduate, or for academics going for sabbatical leave. Neither are they for one off visits, say to attend a conference or give a lecture.
• With the exception of the Atlantic Corridor Scholarship, which is reserved for scholars with affiliations to Athlone Institute of Technology, all other scholarships are undesignated. The allocation of the different named scholarships to the selected scholars is decided on by the Foundation.
