Irish Language Programme 2010 - 2011
Terms and Conditions
Teaching Assistants
The
terms and conditions for each of the Teaching Assistant’s academic
awards may differ depending on the arrangements made with the Canadian
university involved. These differences will relate to possibilities of
provision of on-campus student level accommodation, subsidised
restaurant facilities, and an additional financial stipend. These
arrangements will be given to candidates who are called for
interview. The following are given as guidelines and it is expected that the appointments offered will not vary much from these:
- Level of award:
- €15,750 per nine month academic year
- Appointments will be offered only for the nine month academic year.
- Subject to further confirmation, it is expected that these awards are tax free in both Canada and Ireland.
- One economy travel return ticket from the TA’s home to the Canadian university.
- Contribution to accommodation, if this is not provided in cash or in kind by the University.
Professorships
The
conditions which will be offered for a full time position on the
academic staff of the Celtic Studies Department in St. Michael’s
College, the University of Toronto, will depend on qualifications and
experience of the academic selected. The
teaching responsibilities will be in the academic domain of Irish
language and culture and will be agreed by the selected candidate in
negotiation with the University of Toronto prior to taking up the
appointment. Whilst there is no application form for this position, those interested should email the Foundation at info@icuf.ie
before March 5th next, stating their interest and summarising their
academic history. They should also nominate two referees who may be
consulted in the assessment process. Canadian student awards
These
awards will be offered to one student registered in each of the six
nominated Canadian universities to fund their participation in a
Irish Language based course in the Irish Gaeltacht in the summer of
2010. The selection in each case will be made by the Canadian
university from amongst their Irish language students. The course will be such that it is accepted for credit by the student’s university. The level of the award will be calculated to cover the student’s travel, maintenance and course fees.
