Irish Language Awards 2010 - 2011

Call for Applications
The Ireland Canada University Foundation is pleased to announce the 2010/2011 program of exchange scholarships in the Irish language between Canada and Ireland.

With funding from the National Lottery and the Department of Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs, the Foundation provides a number of scholarly awards designed to support the teaching of the Irish language in certain Canadian universities. The following two awards will be made for the nine month period, September 2010 - May 2011:  

1) Irish Language Teaching Assistantships:

Enabling teachers to participate in the Irish language instruction programme at a Canadian university, the assistantship will also provide individuals with the opportunity to refine their teaching skills and extend their knowledge of Canadian society and culture, enriching their teaching work on their return to Ireland. 

Assistantships shall be tenable at the following universities:
  • University of St. Michael's College, University of Toronto, Ontario
  • Concordia University, Montreal, Quebec
  • St. Francis Xavier University, Antigonish, Nova Scotia
  • St. Mary's University, Halifax, Nova Scotia
  • St. Thomas University, Fredericton, New Brunswick
  • Memorial University, St. John's, Newfoundland
2) Visiting Irish Language Professorship:

Promoting Irish language and culture in Canada, this appointment provides the opportunity for an Irish language academic to hold a visiting professorship at the Department of Celtic Studies, University of Toronto.

3) Canadian Student Irish Language Award: 

These awards are tenable by students from the nominated six Canadian universities to fund participation in an approved Irish language summer 2010 course in a Gaeltacht environment.

Dámhachtainí  Gaeilge 2010 – 2011

Gairm ar Iarratais

Cuireann Fondúireacht Ollscoil Éireann Cheanada clár bliantúil dámhachtainí malartacha ar fáil idir ollscoileanna Cheanada agus ollscoileanna na hÉireann, clár atá oscailte do gach disciplín acadúil. Bhunaigh an Dr. Craig Dobbin, Talamh an Éisc, agus an Dr. Pádraig Ó hIrghile, iar-Uachtarán na hÉireann, an Fhondúireacht sa bhliain 1994. Sa bhliain 2004 tugadh aitheantas don Fhondúireacht freisin i Meabhrán Tuisceana a shínigh an tUasal Bertie Ahern, Thaoiseach na linne, agus Rt. Hon. Paul Martin M.P. Príomh-Aire na linne i gCeanada. 

Cuireann an Fhondúireacht líon áirithe dámhachtainí ar fáil chun tacú le teagasc na Gaeilge in ollscoileanna áirithe i gCeanada, le maoiniú ón gCrannchur Náisiúnta agus ón Roinn Gnóthaí Pobail, Tuaithe agus Gaeltachta. Bronnfar an dá dhámhachtain seo a leanas le haghaidh na tréimhse naoi mí Meán Fómhair 2010 – Bealtaine 2011:

1) Cúntóireachtaí do Theagasc na Gaeilge:

Tabharfar deis do mhúinteoirí  reatha barr feabhais a chur ar a gcuid scileanna múinteoireachta agus cur lena n-eolas faoi shochaí agus faoi chultúr Cheanada ionas gur féidir leo tarraingt orthu tar éis dóibh filleadh ar Éirinn.

Beidh na cúntóireachtaí ar fáil sna hollscoileanna seo leanas:
  • University of St. Michael's College, University of Toronto, Ontario

Tugtar deis leis an gceapachán seo do scoláire Gaeilge ollúnacht chuairte a ghlacadh i Roinn an Léinn Cheiltigh in Ollscoil Toronto chun an Ghaeilge agus cultúr na hÉireann a chur chun cinn i gCeanada. 

3) Dámhachtain Gaeilge do Mhac Léinn Ceanadach

Tá na dámhachtainí seo dírithe ar mhic léinn atá cláraithe sna sé hollscoileanna thuasluaite i gCeanada, le rannpháirtíocht i gcúrsa faofa Gaeilge i dtimpeallacht Ghaeltachta a mhaoiniú le linn an tsamhraidh, 2010.
