May 16, 2024

ICUF warmly congratulates Caoilfhionn Gallagher KC (2002 Dobbin Scholar) on receiving the prestigious Presidential Distinguished Service Award earlier this year for her exemplary contributions to charitable works and advocacy.

Ms. Gallagher KC has acted in numerous cases concerning the rights of the Irish in Britain. She serves as Ireland’s Special Rapporteur on Child Protection, a Commissioner of the Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission, and an Adjunct Full Professor at UCD.

Her significant cases include acting for the bereaved families of the Hillsborough Disaster and the 7/7 London Bombings, as well as defending many arbitrarily detained journalists, cartoonists, human rights defenders, and peaceful protestors imprisoned worldwide. Much of her work focuses on children’s rights, and she has played a pivotal role in cases that have defined the law in this crucial area. Further details can be found here.
